Yesterday I mentioned that we’re working on our character. We’re trying to Choose Kind and Be Brave. After reading Deborah Freedman’s beautiful book, The Story of Fish and Snail, I knew I wanted to do something with my students, but I was searching for what to do. Fortunately, Twitter came through again. Pernille Ripp created a beautiful video of her students sharing how they were going to “be brave.” I showed that video to my students and we talked about the kids and their choices. We learned how being brave is individualistic – it’s different for everyone. They thought of what they wanted to accomplish this year and created their own signs.
